Chiropractic is based on the simple fact that the body naturally strives towards optimal health.
Our nerve system is primarily responsible for that! That is because it is the system responsible for controlling and coordinating every cell, tissue, organ, and system in our body. It beats our heart and breathes our lungs, it is responsible for digesting our food, for allowing our muscles and bones to grow and adapt as they change through life and it is responsible for passing on our emotional state of being to the rest of our physical body. It is so important to our body that it has specifically protected the most vital parts of our nerve system, the brain and spinal cord, with the bones of the skull and the vertebrae in our neck and back.
Our modern, industrialized lifestyles constantly create challenges for our bodies and puts a significant amount of stress upon them. Whether it is physical, chemical, mental/emotional stress or a combination of each, this stress negatively impacts how our bodies function from inside-out. When our bodies undergo constant stress, it changes how the signals can be sent from the brain to the rest of the body and vice-versa via our nerve system. The way our bodies adapt to increased amount of stress is to enter “fight or flight” mode. This results in the vertebrae getting “knocked” out of place or, not moving or functioning properly. This is termed a VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION in Chiropractic.
“Chiropractic care enables the wonderful organism known as the human body to operate efficiently.
Combined with meal planning, exercise and a clear mind, people can change the way they live – and reclaim their lives.” – Patrick Gentempo, D.C.
If a vertebral subluxation is left untreated, or not treated fully, completely, and correctly it may progress into what Chiropractors call the VERTEBRAL SUBLUXATION COMPLEX (VSC). The VSC refers to a multitude of negative changes happening to the body all at once, leading to a state of ill health and the continued production of symptoms. These changes may include but are not limited to permanent bone and soft tissue degeneration and break down, a communication breakdown in the body’s nervous system, an influence in the body’s biochemistry and inflammatory responses, and a weakening in strength and function of the supporting muscles of the body.
“Vertebral subluxations compromise our ability to express life to our fullest potential.”
Doctors of Chiropractic are the only licensed health care professionals who are specifically trained to detect, correct, and help prevent the Vertebral Subluxation Complex. A chiropractic ADJUSTMENT is used to correct a vertebral subluxation. This involves restoring the motion or position of a vertebra that has been compromising proper nerve system function. Traditionally chiropractors have used their hands for this purpose. But now, like at our office, instruments can be used or an application of a light force or touch to certain areas of the spine. This type of adjusting assists the brain to connect more effectively with the spine and body, shifting it from a dominant state of stress to a state of greater adaptive healing. When nerve function is restored, the body can assume it’s inborn ability to heal itself as it strives toward optimal health. Pain and symptoms reduce allowing for an individual to develop new strategies for optimal health and wellness.
Who can benefit from chiropractic care?
Chiropractic care can benefit everyone from newborns to seniors and everyone in between. Even back surgery patients can get help. Chiropractors are skilled in being able to adjust the spine and tailor your care to size, age, and particular health concern.
What can chiropractic help with?
RESEARCH and case study literature shows that chiropractic care can help with symptoms associated with a multitude of health concerns including BACK PAIN, BREECHED POSITION, CAR ACCIDENTS, CARPAL TUNNEL SYNDROME, HEADACHES/MIGRAINES, NECK PAIN, PREGNANCY, SCIATICA, SCOLIOSIS, TMJ SYNDROME, STRESS, TORTICOLLIS,…
More important than just simply symptom relief, there is a growing body of evidence showing that chiropractic care, when given in conjunction with other health strategies, can show remarkable benefits in a person’s overall health and WELLNESS and aids in the improvement of QUALITY OF LIFE.
Can children benefit from chiropractic care?
There is a significant benefit to chiropractic care for children, some argue that it is even more important. From modern birth traumas, tumbles and falls from learning to walk, to sports injuries sustained on the ice, field, or in the gym. It is extremely important to take care of a growing and developing spine.
“As the twig is bent, so grows the tree.”
Some parents believe that children require the same type of adjusting force as they do. However, each adjustment performed on a child is tailored to their size, and specific needs. Children usually do not have any long standing degenerative changes or associated muscle tightness so it becomes much more simple to correct the spine in a child. The force that is required to adjust a baby for instance is usually no harder than the force of a dime on the tip of your finger.
Getting children checked for subluxations is essential for preventing early onset health challenges and keeping them healthy in all stages of growth and development.
“Every newborn should receive a neck and spine examination and a Chiropractic adjustment if necessary…is that idea too difficult to accept?”
– Dr. Lendon Smith (Pediatrician and health author)
